“Time is fungible, you can spend it any way you want, once.” – my wise father shared with me one evening as I was explaining to him how much I wanted to train for a full ironman, but was weighing the sacrifices against the benefits. This caused me to think through my:

Priorities – what do I want to be true of how I spent, or invested, my time this coming year?
• Dreams – if I can chase after anything, what would really mean the most?
• Relationships – with whom do I want to spend my limited time?

Life is full of seasons. Similar to the weather, there are different priorities and purposes for the different seasons of our life. Transitioning between these seasons can be challenging. New Business – Success – Closing the business or selling the business. Being let go. Starting a new job. Dating. Singleness to marriage. Married to having babies. Babies to teenagers. Empty nest. Grandchildren.

In the season you are in now, what are your highest priorities, greatest dreams and most important relationships? How can biting your elephant align with all three of those?
This topic is very personal to me right now. My amazing husband, John, and I found out a few months ago that we will have our first baby in July! We are absolutely thrilled! The reality has provided the need for a lot of reflection on our priorities, dreams and relationships. To be very vulnerable, though the excitement of the new season (a precious little baby) outweighs the emotion that comes with saying goodbye to the old season, it doesn’t make it easy to let go.

Life has various seasons, and they all are beautiful. Every season provides an opportunity to dream big and take action daily. To bite an elephant – it just may look different than we imagined! We need to be sure that our elephants align with our priorities, dreams and relationships. After all, our time is a precious resource that we can spend any way we want…once.
